Software Shelf Key Personnel

Check out the new Key Personnel page just put up on the website:

Back to School - Use of Software Shelf’s Print Management Software Means Real Savings For Schools

Award-winning software allows schools and colleges to reduce their printing by 50% or more

School printing; a major drain on school finances unless tightly
controlled.

Clearwater, Florida and London, United Kingdom: Print Management Software firm Software Shelf International, Inc. announced today, at the beginning of the new academic year, a reminder to schools, colleges and universities that its print monitoring and limiting software offers a workable way for them to substantially reduce their operating costs. In these times of looming recession and financial instability, tight cost control is the key to the future of any organization. Print Manager Plus 2008 Standard Academic Edition provides a practical and environmentally-friendly way for educational establishments of all kinds to do just that.

The award-winning software allows secondary schools, K12 schools, universities, colleges and non-profit organizations to track, control, quota and restrict student and staff printing across the network. Case studies have shown that this software can reduce printing by 50% or more.

William Feeley, Software Shelf CEO

“It’s really easy to use and is 100% software based, so no additional hardware is needed at all,” says Software Shelf CEO, William Feeley. “It runs on Windows Server or Workstation NT/2000/XP/2008 and can track printing from any operating system, so any school could install this software tomorrow and start reducing its paper and ink costs immediately.”

The benefit the software provides schools and colleges is best expressed by its customers themselves:

“We couldn’t afford technology upgrades for our school. After installing Print Manager Plus we cut our printing costs in half - from £24,000 to around £12,000 and are now able to afford upgrades.” — Kevin Bowker, The King’s Academy, Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire, UK.

“Print Manager Plus gave us the ability to make students and teachers accountable for what they print and how much. Users are now pausing before they print and with the ability to set limits to print jobs, the 100-page books that were being sent are a thing of the past. Print Manager Plus is a great product for taking back control over spiraling print costs and saving the environment from wasteful printing.” — Administrator, Wesley Chapel High School, Florida.

Print management software, Print Manager Plus

The product is also very ‘green’ in that it reduces paper wastage, thereby saving trees, energy (in the production of paper and its distribution) and water; the manufacturing of paper is a very thirsty process. Based of average paper savings per client and the total number of its clients worldwide, it was recently calculated that Print Manager Plus is responsible for saving 200,000 trees globally every month!

print management software, print monitoring, print limiting, paper saving, saves paper, reduces wastage, saves trees, reduces costs

Load Balancing and Printer Failover increases the efficiency and availablity of your Print Sub system.

If you are using a Windows Print Server you have the option to utilize Windows Printer Pooling but there are limitations to this. In Windows printer pooling you have one queue looking at multiple printers and the balancing is pretty random always favoring one printer.

Software Shelf has 12 years of experience with the Windows Print Sub system, developing and providing solutions for thousands of different scenarios. Load Balancing and Printer Failover with Print Queue Manager gives you better control options to keep things running in tip top shape. Rather than having one queue looking at multiple printers you have one queue for each printer. On the initial shared queue you place a rule when to redirect jobs to another print queue, the alternate print queue does not even have to be shared. Then on the second queue you also place a rule when to move jobs to a third queue (or even back to the original queue).

These rules can be by total byte amount already being processed by the queue or by total jobs already in the queue. For example:

Queue 1 – Rule to move jobs to Queue 2 if Queue 1 already has 10 jobs in the queue. Can also be done in byte count being handled by the queue.
Queue 2 – Rule to move jobs to Queue 3 if Queue 2 already has 10 jobs in the queue.
Queue 3 – Rule to move jobs that end up here back to Queue 4 if Queue 3 is already handling 10 jobs.
So on and so forth.

This also works very well with Print Manager Plus to give you a complete Print Management solution.

There are other benefits to running this as you can also have Queue 1 redirect jobs to the next queue if the printer goes offline for any reason. Paper Jam, Toner Out, Drawer open, out of paper, etc. Jobs will move on down the line t the next printer and print.

You can also have pop up messages sent back to the end user letting them know their job has moved and where to, and pop up alerts sent to an admin. These pop ups do not rely on Net send like most other applications so you don’t even have to enable the messenger service to have all this happen.

New Print Management Software Improves Law Firm Billing

Print Manager Plus 2008 includes a sophisticated print tracking system which allows law firms to accurately bill back their printing costs to clients with ease

Print Manager Plus 2008 helps legal firms bill clients
for their print outs (image by freefoto.com)

Clearwater, Florida and London, UK: The just-released software, Print Manager Plus 2008 for law firms includes features to help recession proof law firms and improve billing practices and income. The entire time-consuming process of manually recording all printing done of behalf of clients, attributing each print job to the correct client and working out the respective costs to be billed to each is now an integral part of Print Manager Plus 2008. No expensive hardware or training is needed with this pure software solution.

The software allows for the client name, account name or matter codes to be billed back to a central database each time a user within the law firm prints from their workstation. It then keeps track of all print job characteristics such as date and time printed, username, document title, number of pages, number of copies, duplex, NUp, and the cost of the print job.

“PMP even allows legal firms to add a margin to the actual cost of each print job, either as a fixed Dollar (or other currency) amount or as a percentage,” says Danny Byrnes, VP of Software Shelf International. “They had to use a paper logbook and try to work it all out in a spreadsheet. Inevitably, many print jobs slipped through the net and were never billed back to the client. Thanks to Print Manager Plus, that’s now impossible and it also saves them hours of admin, paying for itself within a very short space of time!”

Print Manager Plus is fully transparent and almost indistinguishable from Windows itself. It is very easy to use and requires no changes to the existing network configuration. It works with all makes of printer and on any operating system, running off Windows Server or Workstation. It is also fully scalable with flexible licensing available from SOHO (Small Office/Home Office), to the Small Business Edition, right up to the full version, so it is, therefore, suitable for any size of law firm.

With over 150 pre-made in-built reports, graphs and statements, billing back to the clients of law firms has never been easier to administer and audit.

Print Manager Plus Is Considered a Vital Necessity by its Clients in this Time of Looming Economic Recession

Over 78% of survey respondents give ‘controlling costs’ as the primary reason for using Print Manager Plus

Clearwater, Florida and London, UK -- Software Shelf International, Inc recently conducted a survey among its clients worldwide. The results clearly show that their primary reason for using the product is to control and so reduce both the direct and indirect running costs of printing within their organizations, namely: paper, ink (toner), printer maintenance and electricity.

Other reasons given for using Print Manager Plus in the survey were: its advanced reporting capabilities (it comes with over 130 detailed reports and analysis graphs that allow you to see who is printing, what they are printing and the cost of that printing); its ease of use (it is just like a natural extension of the operating system itself and is completely transparent to the user, needing no additional hardware); and its positive impact upon the environment. Software Shelf recently announced that the combined effect of its international educational customer base alone saves over 100,000 trees a month. In addition, less printing means less electricity consumed which, in turn, means reduced greenhouse gas emissions.

“What with current economic forecasts, if ever there was a time to improve the bottom line to aid corporate survival, it is now,” says Danny Byrnes, Vice President, Software Shelf International. “As our survey results show, our clients have recognized that Print Manager Plus makes a valuable contribution towards the survival of their organizations. Companies who have not yet embraced the power of PMP but who are starting to feel the pinch might want to look of this amazing software solution as a way of securing their own financial stability.”

Besides the important printing data that can be obtained, PMP allows Administrators to fully control printing by being able to implement Quotas and Restrictions on Users, Groups, Organizational Units, and Printers. The powerful restrictions vary from color usage, time usage, limiting pages and copies per print job, to scheduling and implementing printer usage. These controlling limits allow organizations to actually cut wasteful printing hence saving time, money, and resources.

Two noteworthy comments made by respondents of the survey that so effectively sum up what Print Manager Plus 2008 is and does were: “Print Manager Plus is a complete print management solution” and “Print Manager Plus provides functionality that is lacking in our operating system.”

New Print Management Software for Schools and Colleges Reduces Wasted Printouts by Up to 50%

Print Manager Plus stops wasted printouts in schools

Print Manager Plus 2008 can make a substantial dent in school, college or university budgets for toner, paper and print maintenance, significantly reducing costs by eliminating unnecessary student and staff printing. It is the only all-digital solution for educational establishments that is available at a fraction of the cost of other complex hardware-based products, providing the same level of functionality with better quality and without the need for expensive hardware or additional training for staff and students.

Clearwater, Florida and London, UK -- Software Shelf International, Inc recently announced the latest version of its cost-saving solution for schools, colleges and universities: Print Manager Plus 2008, the All-Digital Print Accounting and Cost Reduction Software. The system allows print quotas and restrictions to be set per student (and teaching and admin staff) whilst offering detailed tracking of all printing history.

The software can restrict printing by file type, by user or by group resulting in a marked reduction in printer wear and tear, use of electricity and consumption of supplies. This is great news for the environment as well as the school’s overall cost of operation. Schools using Print Manager Plus report enormous savings in their printer maintenance and paper and ink costs.

The product, which runs on any operating system and works with all printers, is extremely intuitive and easy to use and just looks like an integral part of the operating system itself. Other solutions involve complex and expensive hardware requiring specialized training for both staff and students. The Print Manager Plus 2008 software-only solution provides the same level of functionality and even better quality at a fraction of the cost.

“Exactly how much money is being spent on all aspects of their own printing (paper, ink, printer maintenance and electricity usage) and the printing service they provide for students, free of charge, is unknown to most schools. If students can print photos of sports cars or of Paris Hilton unchecked, they will,” claims Danny Byrnes, Vice President, Software Shelf. “And teachers, nearing their quota, will perhaps decide against printing that handout they were planning for their entire class, getting their students to find the information online instead. Print Manager Plus can, in fact, eliminate wasted printing in schools by as much as 50%!”

“If users are allowed unlimited printing, they will print unlimited pages” and “Paper doesn’t grow on trees” were 2 pertinent responses from a recent industry study of Print Manager Plus customers commenting on why Print Manager Plus 2008 is a must-have for any organization in these times of looming recession.

Control of Printing Costs Vital in Looming Recession Says Official Studies

Print Manager Plus reduces wasted print outs

Print Manager Plus by Software Shelf offers a powerful yet simple and cost-effective way for any organization to assess, control and reduce printing costs – now estimated to be as high as 3% of revenue. Print Manager Plus software is the only All Digital Solution in a market place inundated with costly expensive hardware-based solutions. Print Manager Plus is a fraction of the price of the hardware-based tools, yet brings the same level of functionality.

Clearwater, Florida and London, UK -- Software Shelf International, Inc today announced its recession-proofing solution for any organization with network printing: Print Manager Plus 2008, the All Digital Print Accounting and Cost Reduction Software.

The waste of money from out-of-control network printing has been highlighted in many industry reports: a hidden and pernicious operational cost within any organization. In today’s tough economic climate, there needs to be a proper solution to this hidden cost that would allow companies to exercise proper control in the area of their in-house network printing, to avoid becoming another statistic.

Software Shelf’s solution is the recently launched Print Manager Plus 2008 which offers full printing control with detailed reporting on exactly what is being printed and by whom. It can restrict printing by file type, by user or by group and even enables daily quotas. The result is a marked reduction in printer wear and tear, use of electricity and consumption of supplies. This is great news for the environment as well as the company’s bottom line. Organizations using Print Manager Plus report enormous savings in their printer maintenance and paper and ink costs.

“The problem is that the total cost of printing is unknown for most enterprises. Industry researcher Gartner estimates that companies may spend an average of up to 3% of their revenue on output, making it one of the most over-looked and under-managed assets of their front-end systems,” says Danny Byrnes, Vice President, Software Shelf.

Many professionals in large organisations or schools may find this surprising, because few realize just how much they spend on printing, let alone what they can do to reduce it. In fact, a study by Lyra Research indicates that few network managers and IT departments track printing costs at all. But, an accurate assessment of costs is essential in order to start reducing them.

“Having the ability to monitor, control and restrict one’s printing over a network is so fundamental that, in hindsight, one would expect it to have been included in the operating system; but it wasn’t, so we’ve simply filled that void,” adds Danny Byrnes.

Print Accounting Software Company Offers a Great Way to Go Green

Print Manager Plus by Software Shelf International allows almost any company to easily become more eco-friendly and contribute massively to the environment

Clearwater, Florida and London, UK:
Printer control firm, Software Shelf International (SSI), wants those companies that still haven’t fully embraced the green movement, yet are looking for the best way to be part of it, to know that a solution is at hand.

Print Manager Plus, the print management tool developed by international company, Software Shelf, regulates and restricts printing across a network, thereby making enormous savings in printer paper and ink cartridges.

“As a consequence, the benefits extend far into the environment,” says Danny Byrnes, SSI director based in the company’s Clearwater head office. “Reducing the amount of paper your company gets through every month is a great way to do something positive about global warming because it reduces energy consumption at every stage – from paper manufacturing, to transport, and finally to the energy actually consumed by your printers.

“Where forests are not managed properly, the demand for paper can lead to deforestation – so there’s another obvious benefit. Taking all of our customers into account, we recently estimated that our Print Manager Plus software saves planet Earth about 150,000 trees every month!

“In addition, the paper manufacturing industry is a heavy consumer of water, so here’s another environmental area where our print accounting software is helping.”

It goes without saying that because Print Manager Plus saves printer ink, printer paper, electricity, and causes less wear and tear on the company’s printers – it pays for itself very rapidly.

To make an even bigger positive impact on the environment, SSI strongly recommends that companies also implement paper recycling schemes within their offices.

File-Rescue Plus by Software Shelf Granted a Consumers Digest Best Buy Award

Software which works on all Windows operating systems, external drives and digital cameras is considered, independently, to be one of the best on the market for recovering deleted files, photos and music

San Francisco, California and London, United Kingdom: Software Shelf, developer of File-Rescue Plus software, today announced that Consumers Digest, a leading publication in judging the best products and best-priced solutions on the market, has awarded its file recovery software, File-Rescue Plus, a 'Best Buy' recognition for excellence in quality and price. A photo of the award and a review of File-Rescue Plus appears in the April 2008 edition of Consumers Digest, now on newsstands as of March 2nd.

File-Rescue Plus software works on all Windows Operating Systems. It allows the user to undelete any kind of file, lost due to inadvertent deleting or virus attacks from their computer, external drive or camera.

Consumer Digest editors write, “A Consumers Digest Best Buy is defined as a product that offers the most value for a given amount of money. That doesn’t mean it is the least expensive product in its category, nor does it mean it is the best-known brand. A Consumers Digest Best Buy is a nationally available product identified as one that merits special attention from consumers, based on its combination of performance, ease-of-use, features, durability, warranty, efficiency, styling, and maintenance and servicing requirements.

“On average, a Consumers Digest Best Buy rating is awarded to fewer than three percent of the competing models in any given product category.”

File-Rescue Plus includes a 'shredder' for extreme security. This is the Clean Free Disk Space Option allowing one to securely wipe all free disk space or deleted files on the computer. The software also includes a Live Electronic Update Option to automatically download the latest updates and upgrades in seconds at the click of a button.

Customer comments include: "I purchased and downloaded your File-Rescue Plus program because I was pretty desperate to recover about 100 great photos I accidentally erased from my camera by mistakenly pushing the "erase" function. The program worked perfectly, restored almost all the pictures immediately on the first try, and I was delighted (and relieved).” —SW.
“I recovered almost 8000 files yesterday off of two drives which had (we think) been maliciously deleted. Nice tool you have there." —MAM.
“I, all of a sudden, had 72 jpg's disappear from a SanDisk SmartMedia card. With your software, I was able to recover them.” —JS

File-Rescue Plus is immediately available in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Japanese and Chinese. Anyone may download a free trial version or buy online by clicking here: http://www.softwareshelf.com/products/file_rescue_plus_home.htm

Full Color Printing Case Study from the University of Montana.

I came across this awesome case study on the University of Montana Division of Biological Sciences. It goes into detail about their color printers and how they are managed. Alan Joch from EDUTECH wrote the case study. I think this really explains where a lot of our higher educational customer are at.

Check out the article here:

Check out Print Manager Plus 2008 here:
http://www.softwareshelf.com/products/print_manager_plus_academic.htm

This really shows the current reality of ROI and TCO of printers in an Academic environment. Being able to implement full print management with auditing and restriction capability gives you full control.

How is software considered a "Green" product?

You should check out our press release on how Print Manager Plus saves trees. After a lot of research into trees, what kind of trees, what kind of paper is made from these trees, we calculated we save hundreds of thousands of trees each year, just from our Academic customers.
www.GuideMeGreen.com added us as an environmentally friendly company! Very Cool.

The approximate number of trees that Print Manager Plus saves worldwide every 30 minutes.

Introduction from CEO

I would like to introduce myself. My name is Bill Feeley and I am the CEO of Software Shelf International, Inc.

I started the company in 1996 in San Carlos California, initially reselling 3rd party products to Network Enterprise customers.

After surveying customer requests I partnered up with an old friend of mine and we created Print Manager Plus. This was created by request from the IT industry at the inception of Microsoft’s Windows NT server release. We took on the challenge of surveying and developing a simple, and easy to use software based product, and it did in 1998 releasing our 1.0 version of the product.

Since then the company has grown to over 20 employees and supplies software to thousands of companies and organizations around the world.

Before starting Software Shelf I was the Vice President of Sales for PacificMicro Electronics. This publicly traded company made initial inroads into voice over IP from the US to ASIA. They also manufactured translation software for Mac and Windows, Mac-in-DOS.

Prior to Pacfic Micro Electronics I was the Vice President of Sales for DUX Software. This company published software titles for UNIX SUN O/S and OS/2. Published Software such as SimCity, Ta-Dah!, Xplot, American Heritage Dictionary, and Columbia Encyclopedia.

This Blog will represent my day to day activities, interactions, and product ideas. Please feel free to email me anytime!

I hope you find it interesting.

Best regards,

Bill Feeley

Print Management Company Software Shelf saves over 150,000 trees a month with Print Manager Plus

Printer Management Software ‘Print Manager Plus’ officially a ‘green’ company as it saves over 150,000 trees a month worldwide

‘Print Manager Plus’ makes major contribution towards
reducing global wastage of paper and ink

The approximate number of trees that Print Manager Plus
saves worldwide every 30 minutes.

Clearwater, Florida and London: The printer control company, Software Shelf International, has been included in the international green online directory GuideMeGreen which lists companies and charities that offer ethical and environmentally-friendly products and services.

Software Shelf’s print management tool, Print Management Plus, limits users’ ability to print their files by setting quotas or restricting printing by file size and type. The result is a dramatic reduction in wasted paper and ink which not only saves a vast amount of cost for the organisation, but is also great for the environment.

One user of Print Management Plus recently conducted a study into how much paper the software was actually saving them. The Jeanne d’Arc Technical College in Rennes, France which installed the software 2 years ago has 1200 students, 130 staff, 350 workstations and 14 networked printers. They report a saving of between 200 to 300 reams of paper per month, which together with savings on ink, electricity, printer repair and maintenance equates to a saving of about 15,000 Euros a year.

David Oglaza, founder of http://www.guidemegreen.com/ says “I was astounded when I saw how many thousands of trees Print Manager Plus is saving and we very much welcome Software Shelf to the site.”

According to the environmental site Conservatree, 17 reams of paper can be made from one tree. As there are about 10,000 schools using Print Manager Plus worldwide (each with an average of 1100 students), each school using Print Manager Plus is saving around 15 trees a month. In total, that represents a saving of 150,000 trees every month among its school customers alone; this figure does not even take into account the thousands of companies that also use this print limiting software.

“The positive impact that Print Manager Plus has on the environment is far reaching. Not only does it reduce paper and ink consumption, but it also reduces the amount of waste paper going to landfill as well as CO2 emissions as a result of the reduced printer running time. It thoroughly deserves to be known, from now on, as a ‘green’ product and Software Shelf has truly earned its listing in GuideMeGreen,” says Danny Byrnes, Software Shelf’s product manager.
